Belief #5:
There Is No Scarcity, Only Abundance
by Marnie L. Pehrson
"I am come that they might
have life and that they might have it more abundantly" John 10:10.
The earth is full and there is plenty
to spare. When we truly understand this principle and align ourselves with
God (the Source of all good things), we realize that there is no scarcity,
only abundance. There is plenty of food, plenty of money, plenty of
clothing, and an abundance of land, shelter and ideas for you and everyone
else. It is only our perspective that limits us.
When we hang on in tight-fisted
control, assuming there isn't enough, we stop the flow of abundance in our
lives. Jesus taught it this way, "Give, and it shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men
give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall
be measured to you again" (Luke 6:38). He also said, "For
whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life
for my sake shall find it" (Matthew 16:25).
It might not seem logical at first.
How could giving away what you have bring you more? How could trying to save
your life cause you to lose it?
Perhaps this analogy will help. Think
of the universe as a flowing river of clean water. You are sitting on the
bank with a glass. The only way you can get more water is to either consume
what's in your glass or share it with someone else. The faster you empty
your glass, the faster you can get more. If you refuse to drink the water in
your glass because you're afraid the river will run dry, you just make
yourself thirsty for no reason. This river will never run dry.
There's no reason you can't drink to
your satisfaction and share with others. If you hang onto your glass of
water in fear of lack, you're just going thirsty for no reason. It's all in
your perspective. If you listen to those who say the river's running dry,
you could live your entire life in lack - with all the water you'd ever need
right beside you.
If you realize the truth -- that the
river is eternal -- think of the difference it will make for you and
everyone around you! Not only can you drink to your own satisfaction, but
also you can use the river to irrigate the countryside, creating abundance
for everyone you know. The truth is abundance; lack is only in your mind. It
all comes down to the way you look at it.
David Gikandi submitted an article to
IdeaMarketers that explains this principle further, "All
Limitations are Perceived Horizons." Check it out.
