On December 1, 1997, history was made. It was on that day that President William Clinton signed Public Law 105-124, thereby authorizing the creation of the most adventurous and far-reaching coin agenda in U.S. Mint history. Its name: The 50 States Commemorative Coin Program. Through the program, the Mint will be releasing five commemorative state quarters -- each with a specially designed reverse -- every year through 2008. Launched in 1999, with the minting of the Delaware Quarter, the program will continue to feature the coins in the order that the states joined the Union.
